Bug Description

I installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx (64-Bit) new from the scratch.

It's running fine so far and i can normally login after boot.
Also shutting down works correct.

But when i choose a simple logout it does not work.
First all applications and the session seems to be closed.
Then the screen becomes dark but the login screen does not come up.

Then nothing works any more.
Also a Ctrl-Alt-F1 does not bring a text shell. Only some colored pixel on the screen.

I installed OpenSSL and a remoteconnect from another PC is possible.
Here i can login and make "sudo shutdown -h now"

Maybe the reason is the NVidia-Driver.
I am using 3D and Opengl with a NVidia Geforce 7900GS and a 1680x1050 resolution.
So i installed the driver package with the system tool of Kubuntu.
The driver works good, but the graphic with the dots when booting Kubuntu is messed up.
After this the Login-Screen is been shown normal.
Is it possible to deactivate the boot graphic by default?

Upgraded from Kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (32bits).

The same problem here, after logging out, the black screen appears and the keyboard doesn't respond. I was rebooting with Alt+PrintScreen+R+S+E+I+U+B.

I'm using the radeon driver (the free one).

Here's some logged info about KDM.

Hi Bryce,

as i have written i have found this bug with a fresh installation of Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.
Not an earlier version.

There where several problems that seems not to be solved.
So some days ago i dropped all my configuration work and made a new fresh installation.
This time it looks better, but up to now i didn't install the NVIDIA drivers.
I will do this in the next days.
Then i will retest if a crash will occur on logout.

Regards
Karsten

On the new installation the error isn't present.
I installed the last Nvidia-driver and everything looks fine so far.

I see totally the same behavior with Ubuntu Lucid (Gnome). It works with default driver but it doesn't work with nvidia 96.

Same problem on my Ubuntu 10.04 pc.
Both in work (32bit) and home (64bit).
After a short period when I try to logout the screen shows only the background picture and my mouse moves.
No other option from keyboard available.
The only option available is reset.

One more comment I forgot.

My PC at work has an ATI display card.
My PC at home wears a NVIDIA display card.
