sudo apt-get -f install should do it

@Daniel: Please try to install the latest empathy, it is version 2.30.1-0ubuntu1. You may have to enable the updates pocket to get it from the repository. Please see your software sources setup, if they are not enabled. If you do not want to enable them, we need to look for another solution.

I gave my computer to a friend of mine and he discovered that I had a
half-installed update. There was a particular line of script (I'm not sure
what which he removed and everything returned to normal.
