Bug Description

I can not right click anything. The mouse can click on items in the main menu but, after opening an application I can't select anything but main title bar to move the window around. I can't even select "OK" to shutdown system I have to use Ctl-Atl-Del. When I first installed upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 everything worked fine. I've been using update manager. After turning system off then rebooting, the boot process asked to check the system disk, I let it do so then I noticed this problem. System is a HP Pavilion zv5000 notebook. I can open applications and close them buy clicking on the "X" in the upper left hand corner. I can also open the terminal and run the commands to update and upgrade the system. I can open the browser and type and word into the Google search box and hit return. I get a list of items in my browser window but, I can not select anything.

It seams to be something with compiz. If I kill the process for compiz, I can right click and select items with the mouse however the menu bar and border of the windows are then missing. If I reboot compiz turns on again even if I turned it off and I can't right click or select anything again.

So, now I removed compiz plus rebooted and at least mouse now works however the menu bar and window border is missing. Update manager stated there where missing packages(?).

I ran the command you requested it should have attached the needed report however, the bug went away when I set my Visual Effects to None. Now if I try to select Visual Effects Normal the bug returns so I can not select anything. I can't get out of Visual Effects None but, with no Visual Effects the bug is gone.
