Bug Description

When I plug in my digital camera, Nikon Coolpix, it no longer mounts. It seemed to have stopped working possibly after upgrading to Lucid.

What model is your Nikon Coolpix? According to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgphoto2 Karmic uses libgphoto2 2.4.6. The only Nikon Coolpix models added in libgphoto2 2.4.8 (used in Lucid) were the S220 and S225. None were added in 2.4.7.

If you have a Nikon Coolpix 8800, P6000, L20 or L19 these were not added until libgphoto2 2.4.9, although this would not explain why they worked on Karmic.

The other change in libgphoto2 2.4.9 is "Fixed a Nikon Coolpix configuration bug that caused hangs.", but you are not getting a hang, you just can't mount the camera. So please let us know what model it is.

Hmm, interesting. I have the S220, I just checked. So since that wasn't in Karmic's, but was working, we're probably looking at a one liner broken regexp somewhere or some such when it tries to identify the camera for mounting in the new Lucid build.

Same problem with nikon S220, the camera will not mount.

Seems it's mounted on lucid 32 bit. Same package (libgphoto2-2 2.4.8-0ubuntu2).

@Spoilerhead - Support for the Canon EOS 7D was added in libgphoto2 2.4.8, which is the version used in Lucid, so it seems you have a similar regression to the one identified in comment #2.

I've gotten the exact same gvfs-gphoto2 error message with a Fuji FinePix Z20fd camera on two separate computers running x86 (not AMD64) Lucid. In both cases, simply logging out and logging back in caused the camera to auto-mount.

It looks like my problem with my Fuji FinePix automounting was being caused by Rhythmbox's "Portable Players - MTP" plugin." As long as Rhythmbox was running with the MTP plugin enabled, my camera would not automount. Disabling the MTP plugin allowed the camera to automount and removed the "usbfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed cmd gvfs-gphoto2-vo" error. Oddly I also have a different camera that automounts regardless of whether the MTP plugin is enabled.

Very sharp Steve. I confirm also when disabling the MTP plugin, my camera mounts just fine.

Works for me too (10.10 x86 and Kodak Z710), but this is only workaround, not fix. Steven, did You fill bug report for mpt plugin (I did'nt find)?

No ionash, I have not opened a new bug report on mtp plugin, but if you want to do so, feel free. I do see a few open bug reports already dealing with Rhythmbox's mtp and various usb devices (pen drives and cameras). I'm not sure if this should be marked as a duplicate of one of them or if it should get a new report.
