Bug Description

I installed Mint 9 Isidora on Asus P81IJ. Generally it works just fine. Thank you for the wonderful product. Though the built-in webcam shows view upside down. I had the same problem on Mint 8 Helena. The problem doesn't exist on Windows XP.

Thank you Amaritudo for choosing Linux Mint.
First off I checked with ASUS Support on this is and found that this is a recurring issue with all operating systems including Windows. The main issue here is a driver that is used for the webcam that fails to invert the webcam image. The Windows driver has been updated so that the Vista/7 version will work now, however the linux driver that is installed by default will need to be patched in order to work based off of my study on this issue.
Here is a link that I would recommend to install this patch that will hopefully resolve this issue for you.

*this might work for you as a solution...please let us know if you are able to get this working.

Here is the related article on ASUS Support site:
http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?board_id=3&model=W7J&id=20070912152106953&page=1&SLanguage=en-us

It does appear that this is a linux driver issue, but is not restricted to Linux Mint. If this issue has been resolved already then please let us know for future reference so we can better assist others experiencing this issue.
Thank you :)

Thank you for responding.
The issue with webcam was resolved.
For me works this http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=49507
I understand it is an Asus not linux problem, .

Please let me know if the resolution I found is not the best one. I
also had to make changes so I did not have to start skype from shell
all the time. And I never update Skype.

Thank you for all you doing
Andrei

Hi Amaritudo,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 579690

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
