Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

Installed 10.04 side-by-side with existing 9.10 partition. When booted into 10.04 upon login to primary account, display shows a dark, oscillating band (approx 20-30 pixels wide) near the left edge of the display, extending the entire height of the display. Display mode is 1440x900, 60Hz.

If window containing white background is moved to overlay the affected area, a strong green tint is cast over the entire display area.

When booted into 9.10 partition, none of these artifacts are present.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release: 10.04

Expected behavior: display appears without described artifacts.

Artifacts do not appear to affect the functionality of the system, only the quality of the display.

Screen shot (gnome-screenshot) does not contain artifacts, so I assume the problem is in the graphics driver, although I do not know which package provides that software.

This is a clean installation, no additional software installed after installer reboot.

Also, I have to correct my earlier comment. On 9.10 the screen previously did not display these artifacts. However, booting back and forth between systems, the artifacts appear in both 9.10 and 10.04.

Booting into any Mac OS X version on this machine displays normal video.

Additional info: video artifacts only appear when display is connected to
graphics card over VGA. When the same display is connected over DVI, no
artifacts are seen.

When booted into Mac OS X 10.5.8 on the same machine, video is clean over
both connection types.

Hello, I have to confirm - i am experiencing these problems .
The real disaster is 3d turned on + nvidia_default or manufacturer nvidia driver - the crashes of the whole laptop are very frequent. Approx 5 minutes without crash. With 3D and HDMI I have only green and red mangled stripes.
It always happens when I work with monitors.
