Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Everytime i close Firefox, firefox-bin stays active so i can't restart Firefox until I close it in System Processes. Doesn't help to restart the system either, well yes it works for the first FF-session, but if I close FF and start it again, a popup message appears saying FF is still running and that I have to close it before i start a new window. Every time! This happened on my mothers laptop as well also runing 10.04 LTS.

ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Firefox 3.6.3+nobinonly-0ubuntu4

Hi and thanks for your help making Ubuntu better. I can't reproduce the bug, so I need to ask you some questions to investigate the bug.

1. Are you using some extensions with Firefox? You can get this information from Tools→Add-ons.
2. What happens if you run `firefox' in a terminal for the first time (i.e. after rebooting the computer)? Could you attach the output here, please?

When starting firefox in terminal after reboot:

(firefox-bin:1527): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

(firefox-bin:1527): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

...continues as long as the process is alive.

Clicking exit in ff-window closes ff-window but process is still alive in terminal until I press Ctrl-C in the terminal which closes the process leaving the prompt active as normal.

Something is wierd with my .mozilla folder, I renamed it .mozilla_old and now Firefox is closing and restarting properly after autogenerating a new .mozilla folder. ...aah, remember now. I copied a .mozilla backup folder from my previous installation to get my bookmarks and passwords on my new system. Probably some config mismatch with latest Firefox? Did the same on my mom's when I did a clean install from 9.10 to 10.04 on her laptop last week.

Testing stuff in the .mozilla folder... extensions folder seems ok, backup'd xxxxxx.default folder brings back all my old stuff including the new failing shutdown. With a new xxxxxx.default folder everything seems to work as fresh.

Transferred the .mozilla folder several occasions before witout any mishaps. Sorry for the trouble :s

Sometimes Firefox takes a few seconds to fully close, so please wait a few seconds and try again. If that does not work, then please file a new bug using 'ubuntu-bug firefox' in a terminal since this report has been closed.

Using a usb card adapter for secure internet transactions (Bank-ID, Sweden), makes Firefox unable to close properly and also unable to restart. Removing the 'secmod.db'-file in the .mozilla/firefox/xxxxxx.default-folder solves the immediate problem but isn't really a lasting solution. Don't really know what 'secmod.db' does because no apparent change in Firefox behaviour is apparent after it's deletion.

Found the solution, update a library and after that it's ok.

sudo rm /usr/local/lib/personal/libP11.so && sudo apt-get install libp11-1
