Corrupt letters and bitmaps on the whole screen

After Ubuntu upgrade to 10.04 from time to time I experience corruption of some objects on screen.
This happens after the system is running for long time. The first symptom is substitution of few letters with letter-like shapes all over the screen. Then it takes more and more letters and some other graphical objects are filled with garbage.

The attached screenshot shows both phenomena: many letters are corrupt and there are 3 rectangles that contain random pixels.

I have no idea what system component is responsive for this.

These two screenshots do not look similar to me. Yours appears to be a fonts issue of some sort, that looks more rendering-oriented. There's a lot of information that would be necessary to debug this missing, such as your graphics card, driver versions, and other hardware information. Please run "apport-collect 577223" to allow apport (automatic bug reporting software) to gather information on this bug and submit it to launchpad. Only general system information and logfiles should be collected, your personal files will not be sent.

This may not really be an xorg-server bug, but until more is known, this is a start.

I'm trying to send the details, but when I run apport-collect I get this:

$ apport-collect 577223
Package xorg-server not installed and no hook available, ignoring

and a message box saying "No additional information collected."

I have installed xorg and xserver-xorg-core packages.

I have successfully run
 apport-bug --save xbug xorg
instead.
