Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When playing most songs in Rhythmbox, the track progress bar doesn't move. It stays at the beginning and cannot be dragged to seek either. The current play time at the top-right displays correctly though, and Rhythmbox does advance to the next song when the current one is complete.

I have noticed that the songs for which the progress bar doesn't work all have Unknown for their Time column in the library. The songs for which the progress bar _does_ work show their correct time there. So obviously that's the root problem.

This bug is the same as bugs 442304, 459571, 499708, but I have been directed to open a new one. The workaround described on bug 499708 did not work for me. Removing all songs from the library and then re-importing them doesn't fix the problem of the Time column being Unknown for most songs.

FYI, I observed this problem back in Karmic too.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better, however the report is missing some information, may you please run rhythmbox as: rhythmbox --debug &> rhythmbox-debug.txt ; perform the steps to reproduce the bug and attach that resulting log file to the report? Thanks in advance!.

I see several occurrences of this:

[rb_shell_player_get_playing_song_duration] rb-shell-player.c:3363: Did not get playing entry : return -1 as length

That may help track down the problem.

I resolved this problem installing the package "gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly" and then put the musics in rhythmbox again

the issue seems be when gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg is used for mp3 decoding

Sebastien Bacher is correct, uninstalling gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg solved the issue for me.

gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg wasn't installed on my system and I had the same problem. However installing gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly got rid of the issue.
