Ok I've linked my branch. Is there any way of checking whether it really does need 'curl' or not?

Sérgio Faria (sergio91pt) wrote :

sure, try this:
sudo apt-get remove curl && sudo apt-get --no-install-recommends install clamav-getfiles
dpkg-query -W curl

If the install failed, then test again with curl

Ok, yeah, it does need 'curl'. I'll link my lucid branch (package isn't in Precise, strangely...).

I've fixed up the bug metadata to take account of the removal from precise.

clamav-getfiles | 2.0-6 | lucid/universe | source, all
clamav-getfiles | 2.0-6 | maverick/universe | source, all
clamav-getfiles | 2.0-6 | natty/universe | source, all
clamav-getfiles | 2.0-6 | oneiric/universe | source, all

It seems odd to fix this in only lucid but not also apply the same fix to maverick, natty, and oneiric. This will require four similar uploads with slightly different versions. Would you mind preparing and (if you can; schroot might help) testing them? Note that you will have to be careful with the versions:

This isn't a security update, right? Also, what do I do about the versioning (changelog-wise)? Do I up the Ubuntu version by 1 or .1 (as the link you provided recommends)

Also, how would I go about testing this in non-Precise versions (I'm on Precise)? Also, should I submit this to Debian?

Hi,

The link that Colin gave before details the versioning rule to apply to fix a package in a released version. This apply for Security as well as any other SRU.

To test this, you could use a chroot to install older versions of Ubuntu. You can find help at that url: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebootstrapChroot

And this package has been removed also from Debian (as you can see at that URL: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/clamav-getfiles/+changelog ), so it's of no use to report the bug to Debian (and I'm wondering if this is worth fixing it as people upgrading to Precise won't have the issue).

Thanks for your work!

Fabrice
