Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Hey :)

sorry for posting yet another flash related problem - there seem to be so many of them, but this seems to be a bit different and I hope it is not a direct duplicate.

Starting firefox after updating my 9.10 Ubuntu 64bit to 10.04RC results in the following error.

LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /home/.../.mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so [/home/.../.mozilla/plugins/nppdf.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32]
LoadPlugin: failed to initialize shared library /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nphelix.so [/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/nphelix.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32]
Attempting to load the system libmoon
Segmentation fault

If i start a new firefox-profile, firefox will start but crash as soon as i click on a flash clip etc. as all my bookmarks, addons, passwords are stored in firefox it would be great to have it running again (even without flash). if this helps, opera and flash work without issues.

thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug without some more information. Please run the following command in a terminal:

apport-collect 568812

This will automatically add information about your system to this report so we can more easily determine the cause of this bug. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report.

The error message you got may be related to libmoon issues that we've heard about (such as bug 538796) and the Flash may be a separate issue. Depending on the version of Firefox you are using, the Flash problem can be a few different things. After you run the apport command, we'll know exactly which version of Firefox you are using.

Thanks in advance!

is probably a libmoon issue.

Thanks for the extra information. A lot of users have had trouble with Firefox running Flash as a separate process in the newer releases. Going to "about:config" in Firefox and toggling dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.libflashplayer.so to false may resolve the issues you are experiencing with Flash. Please let us know if it helps.

You may also want to remove libmoon and see if that happens to have any effect on the Flash issues you've had.

dear draycen, thanks for your suggestions! what worked for me was to remove libmoon, all realplayer related files, and flash. then i installed the adobe flash alpha for 64bit and now it works. reinstalling libmoon leads to problems again :-( (as also reported by other users). thanks again!

Good, I'm glad that we found a temporary solution to the issues you were experiencing! Since this appears to be due to libmoon, I am marking this bug as a duplicate of bug 538796. Please report any more problems that you experience.
