Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I was using Thunderbird for email reading. Double clicking on to a message to open it, suddenly the Thunderbird interface closed. See here the ~/.xsession-errors log report:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 566651

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Thank you for the hint. I tried "apport-collect 566651", but the command-line ended with

It seems that I have no rights to read some file in the cache of my home directory ("cece" is my login name).

Can you try running it with sudo?
Ie. sudo apport-collect 566651

Thanks.

I've completed the step-by-step procedure described in the link above.

Should I now run "thunderbird" invoking it from command-line, and
prepending it with "gdb"? Unfortunately, the "thunderbird" command is
actually a symlink to a shell script, which actually invokes the binary
file:

## This script is meant to run the mozilla-bin binary from either
## mozilla/xpfe/bootstrap or mozilla/dist/bin.
##
## *The script will setup all the environment voodoo needed to make*
## *the mozilla-bin binary to work.*

Therefore I don't know how to to the job in the correct way. Please, let
me have further instructions.

However, after the sudden crash on April 19th, "thunderbird" worked fine
and without problems for 3 days. I don't know how to reproduce the
situation when it crashed.

Regards.

Many thanks to Przemysław Kulczycki.

Since April 19th I never had any Thunderbird crash anymore (I use it every day, almost for the whole day). Should I think that the crash was a random event, or any next update of the program removed it?

So, should be the present bug marked as "expired" or something similar?

Ciao
