Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-themes-ubuntu

In Lucid, a number of themes (Ambiance, Radiance, and Dust, e.g.) make the menu bar of GTK apps the same color as the title bar. Additionally, the window can be grabbed by the non-menu part of the menu bar, just as with the title bar. The New Wave theme has the same look, but the menu bar is not grab-able in the same way. For consistency, it should be.

Sorry I'm not more clear.

In Lucid, GTK apps may have a grab target for the window in the area to the right of the menu bar. That is, if you click and drag in this region, you will drag the entire window. This behavior seems to be theme-dependent: It exists in Ambiance, Radiance, and Dust, but not in Clearlooks or New Wave. This is perfectly fine.

In order to emphasize that the menu bar acts in the same way as the title bar (vis-a-vis dragging), those first three themes all make the menu bar the same color as the title bar. In Clearlooks, the menu bar is a very different color than the (focused) title bar, indicating that it is not a grab target.

New Wave adopts the appearance of Ambiance, Radiance, and Dust, in that the menu bar and title bar are the same color. It seems to me that it should also adopt the same behavior, for consistency across themes. (As such, you may legitimately argue that the bug is only in gnome-themes-ubuntu; New Wave itself shouldn't have to conform to pattern of other themes.)

Hope this helps. If not, I'll put together some screenshots this evening (EDT).

Ok now that you explained better I would agree with you. I have proposed such thing to be done an eyar ago but nobody did anything to make it gtk reliant. If it is possible to change some property and get that behavior - I'll do it in the next version of the theme but if it's an engine thing - I wouldn't because I don't knowhow to code it.

 GtkMenuBar::window-dragging = 1

in gtkrc file will probably make the menubar dragging work.
