Bug Description

Since upgrading from karmic desktop to lucid I have started to experience display corruption. All my windows start to have dotted lines drawn across them, and also the desktop. The issue does not occur immediately after starting X, and can sometimes take a long time to occur. However, once it does occur, it gradually starts to affect all windows and the level of corruption starts to increase. It does appear that windows are affected individually, rather than the entire display being affected as one big canvas. See attachment for an example of the corruption in a Firefox window.

The behaviour in this bug is very similar to that in bug #546827. However, that issue has now been fixed for the original reporter but is not fixed with my set up.

I am using an nvidia GeForce 7600 GS, running the nvidia-glx-185 driver. It's a multi-monitor setup using xinerama.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in xorg.
(With many applications, you can report a future bug directly on the appropriate package by opening the application's "Help" menu and choosing "Report a Problem". https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs)

I noticed whilst running apt-get dist-upgrade this morning that the corruption triggered in the middle of the update. I update my system most days. Is it possible that the corruption is triggered by part of the update?

Just to confirm that this bug is still present in my fully up to date Lucid install as of 21/6/2010. It occurs nearly every day, requiring a restart of X.
