Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I am using openoffice 3.2 in lucid beta. When I open an xls file in calc, the row height is not saved. I have to highlight the rows and adjust the row height every time I open a document. Openoffice 3.1 from karmic was fine.

The bug seems to be on save, not on open. When I open a file saved in .xls by OOo 3.1 from Karmic, the heights look good. But when I save, the heights are messed up no matter what version of OOo I open it in.

I found the same bug posted in an Arch Linux forum, with a workaround:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=90196

They say to Format > Row > Optimal Height. It will ask if you want to Add some height, or use the default height. The Arch user found that if you Add at least 0.1, then it will save. I found that you can do it with 0.05. You have to do this with all sheets.

The thing is, it worked for that user who added 0.1mm. My sheet was in inches, and I had to add 0.05". That looks pretty crummy, so I'll have to change it to mm.

But my point is that the number you have to add appears to be unit-independent.

While not directly related to the row height, I have a similar problem with checkboxes not saving in writer.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 561703

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

I am suffering this bug, too.

I am able to collect information with apport-collect, but as I didn't report the problem I cannot successfully run apport-collect 561703... and I don't want to create a duplicated bug. Any hint?

I have been unable to collect the information. If you want to file a duplicate bug, perhaps the original bug could be closed.

Me too. But my attempt to collect apport data tells me that openoffice is not installed -- huh?

Galaxor (gnebulon) wrote :

That happened to me too. It seems that the package "openoffice.org" is a metapackage specifying a bunch of OOo packages. It seems that Lucid doesn't have the excruciatingly full list of OOo packages installed by default, but only individual subpackages such as "openoffice.org-calc".

Anyway, I installed the metapackage and got a few other things, and that's how I apport-collected.

I'm affected by this bug too.

In fact this bug affects everyone who uses .XLS (97, 2000, XP) format. This is especially true for cells with "wrap text" option, because the aspect of the document can be totally changed.

I think this bug is critical or hight, because I've already been called by 3 different users about this bug, in my company. It affects professional users, not a good thing for a LTS.

I think this may be a Go OpenOffice bug, because it only affects Linux ports.

Another people affected (Debian + OOo 3.2) : http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=375364

Sorry for my English.

The bug is not present in the upstream 3.2.0 version (when installing that on Ubuntu, that is), so it's an Ubuntu (& Debian?) specific bug.
