Posting the info now (bit slow with a 20MB log file).
   Thanks for the reply,

Included are logs for both accessing a remote (sshfs) and local CBR file (same file, ~81.4MB in size). When using the suggested process <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind> and replicating the attempts to open it the app hangs for 4+ mins.

As an aside: the system automatically assigned evince as the default app for CBR and CBZ file types. I normally use 'comix' and both Karmic and Lucid have the same issue: it opens CBZs fine, but won't open CBRs. As it turns out, something is hardcoded to 'libstdc++5', instead of being able to see v.6 <http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1339323>. So I simply install v.5 from an earlier distro and comix can see CBRs again. After the evince issue, I have done just that in Lucid and am using comix without issue.
