Sorry for reporting again. It's not clear how to attach my system information and I don't see closed bugs in my list or the option to reopen a closed ticket. Anyways, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/501877 seems to be the same as my problem. It should have been fixed in a previous version, but seems to be genuinely broken again in my new version 2.30.0.

Killing the process and restarting seems to resolve my issue.

Thank you for your bug report. The issue is an upstream one and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug the to the people writting the software (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME)

Seems to be resolved in the latest version 2.30.0.1
