rohc0 creation failed for rohc 1.3.0 library

having problem in running the rohc tunnel test . i have installed the library in ubuntu 8.04

neeraj@neeraj-desktop:~/Desktop/myproject/rohc-1.3.0 $rohctunnel rohc0 remote 192.168.0.20 local 192.168.0.21 port 5000
do not emulate lossy medium (default)
force bidirectional mode (default)
rohc0 creation failed

please help how to get through with this error

The error message is ambiguous. It does not report the reason of the failure. Please apply the attached patch on the ROHC 1.3.0 release, re-build the library and the rohctunnel application and then re-start the rohctunnel application. The reason of the failure should be printed on the console.

thank you Didier for your kind help , i had already solved the problem.

i did the whole process of building the library again with root priviledges
and it worked.
and i will try your patch, if you want me to work in some specific area of
rohc development then please tell.

Ok, I see the root of your problem. You can build the library as
normal user but you must run the rohctunnel app as root.

I would appreciate feedback on the patch. It could save people some
time.

For ROHC development, any help is appreciated. What are you good at ?

Here are some ideas:
 - Test the library on many different systems: build the library and
   run the non-regression tests.
 - Capture miscellaneous traffic and test the library with these
   captures.
 - Send traffic through a tunnel created by rohctunnel and watch for
   failures.
 - Add a ROHC feature that is not implemented yet (see
   http://www.tech.viveris.com/docs/rohc/features.html).
 - Find an opensource application you like and add ROHC support in it.
