Bug Description

Binary package hint: openshot

I previously reported this bug but it was closed for unknown reasons (some one said my version is "obsolete" which was not the case)

Openshot is crashing if you try to add files using the "Add Files" in the menu.

What I did/how to reproduce it:

I have a folder with 105 .jpg images in it. I want to add these files to a blank/new project and create a movie out of that. When selecting the folder in the "Add Files" menu openshot crashes and leaves this bug report.

It is really easy to reproduce this bug, just add 100+ .jpg files at once and it will crash. it will also crash with a few files sometimes..

Please fix this bug or html5 videos have no chance and flash will win the battle since there is not 1 single video editor for ubuntu which can handle .jpg files and make a custom movie out of that (html5)

I'm not sure what is causing your problem, but I can't reproduce this. Whether I import 1 or 100 JPG files, I don't have a problem.

Maybe.. ..you know any other video editor which can add .jpg images and where I can afterwards arrange these images and make an "animated logo" out of that? .ogv output?

You can create an "openshot.debug" file, which might contain some clues.
Please see this FAQ for instructions:
https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+faq/1032.

Thanks!

I'm not sure this debug file helps, since it just locates some files but here it is:

4th of April 4pm GMT+1, bug seems to be fixed, thanks for your support, it seemed to be a python problem. Also rhythmbox crashed for me (uses also python) and this has been fixed too. So thanks.

If I encounter this bug again, I will reopen it.

Bye Bye

Ok everybody, this bug still exists, it still crashes when I try to add the files.

But this time I made a valgrind-log file which hopefully should really help!

Please check the file for the bug, thanks.

I use Lucid beta 2 now and still bug still exists. It would be nice of you guys if somebody could care about this bug and try to fix it. If you don't know how, you can ask me any questions, I'll provide all possible information you need.

The stack trace shows an error in libmlt. This is likely something that we can not fix, unless we are using libmlt in an incorrect way. This bug should probably be reported to the upstream authors of that project. Hopefully the authors of that project can shed some light on this bug. =)

Thanks Jonathan Thomas.

I have e-mailed <email address hidden> since this was the address I found in synaptic under libmlt.

I'm assuming this is not a bug in the linux kernel (hence invalidating).

OpenShot uses Launchpad for bugs, so the Bug Task for OpenShot just added should be sufficient.

ubuntu-devel-discuss is ubuntu related and not upstream.

Ok....if you think so....

Who is responsible for libmlt then? libmlt doesn't have a website, it doesn't have a ppa, it doesn't have a maintainer, it doesn't have an e-mail contact address. So who is going to be responsible for this ;-)

This bug is not caused by OpenShot, but rather the MLT library or FFmpeg. I am marking this bug as invalid due to the fact we can't fix it in our project.

Since it's an actual problem, just not in this package, unsetting the affected package and leaving it open would be more useful.
