Bug Description

Binary package hint: modemmanager

After normal install of the beta 10.04 (iso, burn and live and real install) there was no microphonesound in Skype.
I used info: "Remove pulseaudio and install alsa with no positive result.
1 How to reinstall pulseaudio
2 How to get Skype working properly (since 8.04 If I recall properly this has been the problem) because that's the only disturbing reason for me to keep using Windows (where Skype works OK).
The same problem arises in Linux Mint Helena.

Skype was install via download from the existing (on the website) deb package.

David Wise (2wiseib) wrote : Re: no microphonesound in Skype

I have a fresh install of 10.04 on an EeePC 1005HA and have the problem with no microphone sound in skype. Also in sound preferences the volume appears to be set at zero and cannot be adjusted. Sound recorder works OK however. Installed pulseaudio volume control and found that moving the slider bar for volume control restored microphone on skype and in sound preferences. It appears that when the slider is at maximum it disables the internal micophone

The inbuilt sound card in this PC is a HDA Intel at 0xf7db8000 irq 22

I don't see how this is related to modemmanager. Does it happen when not connected through mobile broadband modem too?

Hello
Natty is installed and I can play MP3's but there is no microphone (nor
intern nor extern) anymore.
I tried all the possibilities I know, but no solution.

What do you see in the sound icon by the clock -> sound settings -> input. Is there a microphone there? Is it muted (seems to be that as default for me)?

Hello Marius

After much searching and probing I managed to get the external (front) mic
working ok. This is the same as in 10.10.
The internal did and does not work in Linux (but was OK in Windows).

I'm sorry to have given you.

If there is a solution, I'll be glad to hear but I can Skype now.

Thanks

There is now a "analoge microfoon" but there was none before, even with the
external mic not connected; but there is no sound when speaking in Skype
through that internal mic.

Could you try to register your voice with an application such as audio & video -> "sound recorder" ?

No sound with the internal mic.
Sound (not good - I heard the processor also, I think) OK with the external
mic (analog microfoon)

So this problem is not related to skype, maybe a pulseaudio problem. Reassigning

The only solution to make microphone work is to install linux-backports-modules-alsa-generic...

Just go to:

Menu / System / Administration / Synaptic Package Manager

And search and mark for installation:

linux-backports-modules-alsa-generic

tip: if you have multiple versions click on the first and read the description which should inform what name to install...

If after the reboot and mic mute is off, still does not work, just go to terminal and type:

sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

and add or change the following:

options snd-hda-intel model=auto enable=yes

Then Ctrl+X, type Y to write and exit, reboot and mic will work.

Bye and have lots of fun with Ubuntu (the best).
