Bug Description

Binary package hint: plymouth

I just get a blinking cursor. I have lucid with all the updates installed as of yesterday (4/2/10) and I have restored the configuration to the default one in the package. I have an intel integrated GFX card, 2GB RAM, 1.6 GHz Dual core, and its on a laptop (Tohisba A135-S4527). This might be a bug, and it might be user error, i am posting my plymouth config file just in case.

Thanks.

If you run the following commands, does the boot splash show up?

  echo FRAMEBUFFER=y | sudo tee /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/plymouth
  sudo update-initramfs -u

grep: /lib/plymouth/themes/text.plymouth: No such file or directory
grep: /lib/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth: No such file or directory

does this have anything to do with it?

Oh - yes, sorry; it appears you don't have the plymouth theme packages installed, despite them being recommended by plymouth and by ubuntu-standard.

Please remove /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/plymouth again, install the plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text and plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo packages, and see if that gives you the expected splash screen.

Ok - without those packages, it's not expected that you would have a boot splash, but users will have one by default. Closing this as invalid.
