Bug Description

Binary package hint: gedit

When I open a new file, select Autocheck Spelling, it works as expected. When I open a PHP file over an SSH connection and select Autocheck Spelling, the spell checking does not work on newly typed words, yet it still has highlighted the previously misspelt words that existed when the file was opened.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: gedit 2.30.0-0ubuntu1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-19.28-generic 2.6.32.10+drm33.1
Uname: Linux 2.6.32-19-generic x86_64
Architecture: amd64
Date: Fri Apr 2 23:06:59 2010
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gedit
InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" - Beta amd64 (20100318)
ProcEnviron:
 LANG=en_GB.utf8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: gedit

Thanks for the report, that works fine for me, what i did was, create a SSH connection to a machine with nautilus then go to gedit open that location and file, enable the spell checking, it works fine even for new words added, may you tell us a few other easy steps on how to reproduce the issue? I cannot confirm the issue here, thanks.

Sorry for taking a long time to reply. I still have this issue. I am now using 10.04 UNR. When I connect to my SSH server using Nautilus and open a PHP file with gedit, all current words spell check OK, but any new words are not highlighted or flagged up with an actual spell check.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Oneiric Ocelot. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Thanks for the reply... just over a year later, but I gave up with Ubuntu
some time ago, so I am no longer interested in this bug.
