Bug Description

Did a little research in forums and found that the conflict between newer Kernel and USB has been reported also by others. What helps is to disable legacy usb in BIOS - then 2.6.15.23, -24, -25 boot fine and won't freeze afterwards either. However, then you can't choose between OSs before booting. So, anyway, you need a ps/2 keyboard with the new Kernel. Everything worked fine with Kernel 2.4.x installed (and legacy usb disabled), both XP and DapperDrake 6.06 recognized usb keyboard during the boot as well as when running, and the OSs could be chosen beforehand. I cannot but dub Thee BUG! :)

Is this still a problem with -26 or later?

Thanks for asking ... I hadn't tried it for a while, but now that you asked, I did. Although I have 2.6.15.27 running, I still coudn't manage to get the Kubuntu boot with USB Legacy support enabled. So the answer is yes, it's still a problem. I'm not sure it has anything to do with kernel, though ... but neither Ubuntu nor Kubuntu seem to acknowledge USB Legacy support (maybe it's an overall problem with most or all of the distros, haven't tried?).
But this is bad, and one of the few things that I don't like about Linux (at least K/Ubuntu) and - as strong a Linux supporter as I am - I just try not to speak loudly about this problem! :)

Sorry to hear that you are having these problems. Do you still get these issues with Ubuntu Feisty?

Yep, the problem persists. Tried also with the new Mandriva, all the same
(and it's understandable, as it has to do with Kernel). So I gave up using
usb-keyboard, no big deal.
