Bug Description

Binary package hint: software-center

the "get software" button on the top next to the back-and-forward buttons must start insensitive like the other buttons, since you will have no action if you click the button without navigate to any place before.

by the way, "get software" means an action similar to download and install to me, maybe "browse software" would be more appropriate.

Thanks for taking the time to report this. The button doesn't do anything at the start for me.. can you explain what it does when you click it?

The button does nothing, that is the reason to start it at the same status
of arrows button, being enable means that some action could be done.
While enable, users feels like clicking on it something would happen, but
nothing happens. :D

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

I can confirm that the 'Get Software' button appears as an active button, while the arrows are definitely inactive. 'Get Software' should be an inactive button as well, since it is actually inactive.

Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

The specification (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareCenter#Path%20button) says nothing about this issue.
It could possibly make sense to make the last button of the path inactive since clicking it has no effect.

@mpt: the opinion of a UX specialist would be welcome here.

This is awkward. The reason the last element in the pathbutton does nothing when you click it is that it represents where you are. In that sense, it is visually more important than any other elements. But if it was insensitive while the other segments were sensitive, it would look *less* important than all other elements.

So I think the only way to fix this would be to find a new appearance for the last element that looks (a) more important than the other elements, (b) contiguous with the other elements, (c) unclickable, and (d) attractive. If someone can produce an appearance that satisfies those requirements, we can implement it. Otherwise, there might not be anything we can do.

summary: - "Get software" button must be insensitive
+ Last element in pathbutton is clickable but does nothing
