Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-sis

I have a notebook that uses video chipset SIS 671, and the video card works only at 800x600 resolution, there are several drivers on the Internet that enable the 1280x800 resolution, but as I think the philosophy of Ubuntu is to be easy, I suggest that you indicate these drivers after installing Ubuntu or incorporate the actual Ubuntu. For years and years that people report this bug and nothing happens. We know that Ubuntu is free and we can not complain.
There are other Linux distributions that support this chipset as Mandriva and Brazilian Satux. If they support this chipset can also support Ubuntu.
Satux have 3d acceleration chip that, because they contacted the SIS, Canonical also could do that.

Hi messajunior,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn` and `dmesg`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you're using a custom /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

The 800x600 issue has also been observed with this chip in Lucid. I have received this report by email and cannot access the machine in question to capture logs. So this is only FYI, I'm aware that for doing something real we would need logs.
