Binary package hint: ubiquity

These are the logs for bug 543801; I couldn't get Launchpad to find it, so my only option was to create a new bug.

(Copying my comments from the original defect, #543801):

Installing Mythbuntu 10.04 Beta 1. I am installing a standalone Backend, which doesn't have a remote control (no surprise there). Installation goes fine up to the 82% mark, then hangs displaying "Configuring Infrared Devices". This is on a system that runs 9.04 just fine. I tried the daily build a week ago (13 March) and it had the exact same bug, but I didn't know where to report daily build bugs.

Since this one will prevent just about anyone from building a Primary Backend, I think it should be a pretty high priority to fix.

If you have a daily build that you think fixes this and you would like me to test, please let me know.

Interestingly enough I tried to reproduce using your same inputs and a
recent daily build but couldn't. But that doesn't seem right - nothing has
changed in the recent daily builds that should cause such behaviors.

Moved to mythbuntu. Mario, if you'd prefer I don't do this in the future, do let me know.

I tried with today's daily build and got the same result. I left it sitting at 'Configuring Infrared Devices' for about six hours and it never went past that.

The system is pretty common, an ASUS K8NE Deluxe motherboard with an PC-HDTV tuner card.

QA_manager: I see the other bug has the steps you took to reproduce this. Could you try varying those responses? For example, on step #2, use a simple password, and/or try not enabling VNC (to make sure that part of Bug 363153 hasn't reappeared)?

Also, could you try not doing step #1 and if it succeeds, add the service after the install completes? If you have that bug number handy, it would be nice to check the status of it

Thank you!

I ran it again, taking almost all of the defaults. I made these selections:
 - I entered my name and a password
 - I entered a name for the system (rather than taking the default)
 - I did not change the services at all - so I left Samba installed, did not install VNC, and did not install the MythTV service. Does this remove the need for your suggestion of entering a password?
 - I told it to use the entire drive for installation (rather than taking the default)

Installation ran to 'Configuring Infrared Devices' and hung there.

This bug was fixed in the package mythbuntu-live-autostart - 0.40-0ubuntu1

---------------
mythbuntu-live-autostart (0.40-0ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * Set the replaced file for background to be in
    /usr/share/images/mythbuntu (LP: #550088)
  * Ubiquity remote plugin:
    - Redirect stdin/stdout/stderr while running the lirc generation.
      (LP: #544711)
  * Merge with the ubiquity slideshow for ubuntu.
  * debian/control:
    P/C/R for ubiquity-slideshow.
  * Drop all the svg -> png conversion. Just ship pngs.
  * Rerender all pngs that are shipped.
  * Update all html pages to load images as exact size.
  * Update all html pages to use the new header div and wrap content better.
  * Override the css to not overflow on lists.
  * Add an icon to the documentation page.

Hopefully that above commit to mythbuntu-live-autostart helps. I couldn't reproduce your scenario, but looking over the logs it seemed like debconf was getting interrupted by the stdout from mythbuntu-lirc-generator.
I tried to block stdout/stdin/stderr from being processed at that time, which looked liked where it was hanging.

If you still have problems on tomorrow (or later) media which should contain mythbuntu-live-autostart, please follow those same steps you used to file this bug by running ubiquity in debug mode again (ubiquity -d) and uploading logs using ubuntu-bug (ubuntu-bug ubiquity).

Thanks!
