Slider not moving during previewing the timeline

Bug Description

I created a project about 30 min long, then saved it. After I loaded later the saved project, everything was OK, except for the slider on the timeline, which does not move forwards during previewing the video. If I click on the timeline, the slider also doesn't show there, as it did before (or in a new project). It moves only if I drag it with mouse.

Opensuse 11.2 KDE4,
Openshot 1.1.0, downloaded with bzr branch

What version of OpenShot were you using when you created the project file?
1.1.0 or an older version?

Thanks,
-Jonathan

I have also experienced this problem. Sometimes the slider will eventually come back but it's not consistent. Seems to be triggered by changing the zoom and clicking on the time line back and forth until it works.

It was version 1.1.0 too. I can't make it work again, zooming in and out, clicking on timeline does nothing. I just reproduced it:
1. Create a new project,
2. Add a video to the timeline - for me it was a H.264 encoded .mp4 file, fullHD res., 1 minute long,
3. Save the project and close Openshot,
4. Launch Openshot again and open saved project,
5. Run preview and see the silder stucking at the beginning, or
6. Click anywhere on timeline, preview changes but slider does not appear there.

I was not able to reproduce this using your steps. The only time I've seen this happen is when opening a much older .OSP file from before version 1.0. Could you please attach your .OSP file (in ascii format... which can be set in the preferences). Also, can you attach an example mp4 file that you are using?

Thanks,
-Jonathan

There must be something wrong rather in my system, I think. Every version I downloaded has this behavior, with every media types. I even tried newest version 1.1.1 from bzr branch. But what component could affect the slider? Funny, the other slider (right under video) works OK. Anyway, I attached my project files, there are 3 photos from the camera and .osp file in ascii format. But I doubt it will behave the same way at your system.

Ok, I just noticed that if I open up a project from the "Recent Projects"
list, the slider works as expected. But if I open up a project by specifying
what project file to open, the slider does NOT work as expected. Hope that
helps.

I'm using Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10, 64bit.

Yes, I didn't noticed it before, but you're right jason. The same here on 32-bit Opensuse 11.2.

I usually use the "Recent Projects" menu, so maybe that explains why it
always works for me. I'll look into this tonight.

Thanks,
-Jonathan

This was a tough one to figure out. It did not make sense to me why it would freeze the play-head. However, I moved some code around, and re-factored the "open project" code to be simpler, and it now works. =) Hopefully we'll get this bug fix deployed soon.

Changed in openshot:

I have nearly the same problem with Openshot 1.1.1 and ubuntu 9.04.
I've installed Openshot Yesterday and during testing, I noticed that from a certain time the timeslicier didn't corresponded with the picture on the screen: there was a delay: it was impossible to continue cutting and pasting scenes (sorry for my English) even the sound didn't matched anymore.
A little later the timeslicer doesn't move.
I'm not sure if this happened after a restart of the program.
But I noticed after reading this bug, that when i open thee same project as a "recent project' all becomes normal again.

There is something else wrong with the timeslicer: after cutting a scene, and playing it by moving the timeslicer at the beginning, the scene isn't the same as when I move the timeslicer with the mouse backwards!!?? There is a part missing.
