Is this using the DVD (menus) option, as bug #50857 covers this, which has been fixed in Edgy.

In fact, I upgraded to Edgy today, and can confirm this bug. I get a slightly different GDB output. This is only when using the DVD (menus option), so the bug I reported (Bug #50857) has not been fixed.

The dmesg output looks extremely suspicious (i.e., hardware error). Can you play audio CDs using vlc?

I also get this, and the only mention in the dmesg output is:

Freshly-burned DVD of a friend's wedding (so no CSS etc) caused VLC to crash with the message:

in /var/log/syslog. Crash dump (sadly without debug symbols) attached -- I'll check the link above and see if I can get one with symbols.

I can also verify, for an encrypted, menued dvd with AMD64. Also, Totem gave me "could not read from resource" on this dvd. Also, VLC crashes on a menu-less, non-encrypted dvd, and doesn't even offer to make a bug report.

Also for dvd (menus) with 86_64 (Amd64). Disk is not encrypted. This disk plays fine using DVD w/o menus option.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
