Bug Description

0 A.D. is a historical real-time strategy open source game, published by Wildfire Games. It will focus on the years between 500 BC and 500 AD. 0 A.D. will be released in two parts: the first will cover the 500 BC–1 BC period, and the second will span 1 AD to 500 AD. It has been in development since 2000, with actual work on the game starting in 2003. The game aims to be entirely free and open source. In addition, the developers do not get paid for their work, nor will they charge for their product. When the game is finished, it will be available for download on the internet. Developers confirmed releasing of the project as open source.

It is worth a try.

I'd recommend waiting a week or two before releasing a package - I'm currently working on tidying up a few issues with the code (now just minor things that shouldn't affect the packaging process much) and will set up a proper downloadable source/data release very soon, which will hopefully work better than a random SVN snapshot, and it'd be great to have that version packaged.

there is a report about packaging it for official ubuntu repos, too at https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/498462
should these reports be merged?

imho jes. it seems to me the same.

http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/BuildInstructions#Obtainingthelatestrelease has downloadable tarballs which fix the issues I was aware of. (That page also has some rough guidance for making packages). If nobody reports major problems in the next few days, we'll probably announce this as the first non-SVN release version (and then hopefully make more regular releases after that).

I successfully compiled and tested the game.

It is ready for publishing. But we are still in an update freeze until we got the new server.

Is this a bug ?

This bug is tagged needs-packaging which identifies it as a request for a new package in Ubuntu. As a part of the managing needs-packaging bug reports specification, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/Specs/NeedsPackagingBugs, all needs-packaging bug reports have Wishlist importance. Subsequently, I'm setting this bug's status to Wishlist.

Profiles have been removed in current svn:

http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/LatestRelease has a new version (r7419), which is likely to be the last snapshot for the near feature. (It cleans up the main menu a bit, and hopefully shouldn't affect anything else.)

Ok, the drop down menu for the profile has been removed as I see.

And the only activated menu is the single player menu.

I have a problem with running it. Appears this error:

I wanted to download this package, but it is already installed. The description is: Note that building Debian packages which depend on the shared libbfd is Not Allowed.

@Christoph Korn: thanks for the package!

Some notes:
1) Installation using the link "Install this now" doesn't work. It works however when adding the entry to sources.list.
2) the package includes lot of not needed .a files.
3) It also includes:
 - test_dbg: it should be run after make; no need to include it in the package (also it doesn't run since it needs to be in a writeable directory);
 - ActorEditor_dbg and ColourTester_dbg: I don't know what they are but they don't run anyway: "error while loading shared libraries: ../../../binaries/system/libAtlasUI_dbg.so": they are not listed at: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/wiki/BuildInstructions#CreatingLinuxpackages (also note that libCollada_dbg.so (or libCollada.so) and libAtlasUI_dbg.so (or libAtlasUI.so) while listed to be distributed are not needed, see: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12996 .)

A patch is attached (also remove "cd libraries/fcollada/src && $(MAKE)" which is not needed and change ";" into "&&").

The package could also be built with "CONFIG=Release" to disable debug and improve speed, but at this point I think it's better to use the debug build, since the size is about the same and could help finding bugs.

Thank you for the feedback.

I opened a new bug report for it:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/getdeb.net/+bug/556356

I will apply those changes to the new version because none of the changes are critical for the current version.
