trying to install a package under the omap kernel on an ext4 filesystem produces a kernel panic, below is teh log from serial console trying to install the inux-image-2.6.33-500-omap package with dpkg -i

Dear All,

I do not know if my opinion, below, may help to solve your problem. But
still, I want to share my experience.

I was testing Ubuntu on Beagleboard. One day It started getting Bad Sectors
in the memory while booting Linux. Initially I thought it is beagleboard
problem. But Later I came to know that it was due to damaged memorycard.
Hence when we get kernel panic error, the fault need not be on Linux Side,
it could be your memory device.

that card/rootfs works fine if plugged into an imx51 babbage board or chrooted from an x86 system, it is definately not hardware related.

I cannot reproduce this bug. Also, the bug seems to be coming from kmalloc rather than an ext4 function.

Oliver Grawer, can you please try the debian package at: http://people.canonical.com/~surbhi/ti-omap/ with the following kernel command line options "loglevel=7 debug". Please do attach the dmesg if possible, when you hit the bug.
