Bug Description

I have an Acer AspireOne model 532h and I am running unr 9.10 with all latest updates also on same netbook have windows 7 starter in windows 7 my built in card reader works fine but does not in UNR 9.10 this is a huge hinderance for me. All usb ports work correctly and i can use an external card reader just fine, is there any work around to get the internal card reader to function? I have tried several work arounds listed for other aspire one's but to no avail.

Hi Walter,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 542022

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

this bug affects me as well on a Gateway LT2104u netbook running 10.04 netbook edition. as far as i know, the LT2104u is just a re-branded version of the Acer AO532h.

it looks like the card reader actually shows up as a usb device, not a pci device. when i insert an sd card into the card reader, lsusb shows the following new device (which is not present when no memory card is inserted):

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0cf2:6250 ENE Technology, Inc.

when i remove the memory card, the above usb device goes away. /var/log/syslog only contains the following events from the time the memory card is inserted to when it's removed:

Jul 8 18:44:07 tweety kernel: [ 4474.384674] usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
Jul 8 18:44:07 tweety kernel: [ 4474.517824] usb 1-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
Jul 8 18:44:26 tweety kernel: [ 4493.382658] usb 1-5: USB disconnect, address 3

i will not have a chance to test the latest ubuntu cd image or the upstream kernel for 2 months. but i wanted to add the above information in case it is useful. i'm also including "lsusb -v" output for this device:

Reopening this bug. I'd say one month of no comments is not "quite some time". In addition I provided what I think is useful information for tracking this down. Namely that the card reader is detected by the USB stack but Ubuntu doesn't realize that it is a removable storage device. I don't know enough about what USB properties Ubuntu uses to decide what kind of device is plugged in. Is the needed information missing in the kernel, in udev, in HAL, or somewhere else?
