Lucid: Wubi drops immediately into grub shell on reboot

Bug Description
Steps:
1. Do the windows part of the install.
2. Remove the cd
3. select reboot now
4. Select Ubuntu from the grub screen
5. Watch as it drops immediately into grub shell.
It should on step 5 fire up an automated ubiquity install that installs the linux side of things.

23:00 <cjwatson> ok, we've narrowed down the wubi failure and I think it'll have to be release-noted, but it seems clear enough what's going on
23:00 <cjwatson> wubi is creating the disk image files on the Windows side, as sparse files so that it can work more quickly later
23:01 <cjwatson> evidently grub used to be OK with this, but now it bails out with an error about root.disk not being a valid filesystem, and dumps the user at a grub shell
