Hi Kosty,

I'd like to send this upstream, but first let me ask, are you still having this with the current lucid updates? The newer -19 kernel has some fixes for radeon so it would be nice to re-test. Please post a fresh dmesg and /var/log/Xorg.0.log after doing this test. Thanks ahead of time!

Hi Bryce,

Thanks for taking on this issue. I was stressed to much by the issue so I switched to fglrx for a while (the issue does not appear there).

After your comment I have done the following:
$ sudo aptitude update
$ sudo aptitude full-upgrade
$ sudo aptitude remove fglrx
$ sudo aptitude reinstall xserver-xorg-video-ati
$ sudo shutdown -r now

While reboot I could see that xserver-xorg-video-ati is being used instead of fglrx, since splash-screen looks way better with it. However after 10-15 mins the bug reappeared. :(

Xorg log file is added as attachment. The dmesg output will follow shortly.

Well, next I'd like to forward this issue upstream, but first it must be retested on latest development version of Ubuntu to make sure the issue still happens there with the latest code. ISO images are available via http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. If you can reproduce it in the LiveCD environment, you shouldn't need to modify your installed system. Also please attach a fresh Xorg.0.log and dmesg from this testing.

Is it the laptop panel (LVDS) that shakes or an external monitor like VGA or DVI? Make sure your kernel has this patch:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/airlied/drm-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=267364ac17f6474c69b03034340f769b22f46105

If that doesn't help, does setting radeon.new_pll=0 on the kernel command line help?

In my case, the laptop panel (native laptop monitor) is shaking. No other monitors were attached.

At the moment of writing neither kernel patching, nor setting "radeon.new_pll=0" was tried. I will post back once some more info emerges.

kosty, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi guys,

Unfortunately, I don't own that machine any more. So I can't help you
with the issue. :(
