Bug Description

Binary package hint: mythplugins

MythNetvision requires flash to be installed for any of the existing grabbers. The current "mythnetvision" package does not automatically install the ""flash-plugin-installer" package if it is missing. In effect MythNetvison will work but none of the videos will play.

As discussed with reporter, we can't simply depend on "flashplugin-installer | adobe-flashplugin" as the non-free adobe binary would need to be shipped on the CD ISO.

We need to:
  * Experiment using gnash or swfdec, the free flash implementations
  * Remove mythnetvision from the default install of mythbuntu, and allow people to install it via the normal repositories (which will then be able to pull in the non-free version)
  * "Won't Fix" this bug and perhaps promote installation of flash through a non-standard method (perhaps change the behavior of mythnetvision to prompt.

Thanks again for helping with this doug!

I tried both free flash player packages "gnash" and "swfdec", neither would play the MythNetvision video links in MythBrowser. It seems that only Adobe Flash can be used with MythBrowser so subsequently is a MythNetvision dependancy.

Same story here... flashplugin-nonfree does not work with mythBrowser 0.23.0+fixes24104-0ubuntu2 in Mythbuntu 10.04. Flash webpages crashes mythBrowser. I haven't mythnetvision installed.

@Gepardi

Please file a new bug, as that doesn't deal with a missing dependency on MNV

Hi, in case it's not too late to add a 'conflict' to this dependency: flashplugin 10.1.85.3ubuntu0.10.04.1 doesn't play nicely with mythnetvision 20.23.0+fixes24104-0ubuntu2

If you try to watch a YouTube link you get a segfault which takes down the whole MythTV frontend. (Mythbuntu 10.04)

Workaround is to downgrade to flashplugin 10.0.45.2ubuntu1

This dependency is not good for people who install the plugin by downloading it directly from Adobe. E.g the x64 native version of flash.

I've moved the dependency to a recommends. This means it will still install flash by default, but you will be able to install MNV without the flash plugin via

apt-get install mythnetvision --no-install-recommends
