Bug Description
Binary package hint: thunderbird
Within the last hour, three (possibly four) times I have experienced the same problem.
What happened?
Using the tab key to tab through the header fields while entering information, I got to the subject field. After typing the subject of "meeting time change" and then on other attempts "meeting time", and while attempting to use the tab key to go to the body field of the message, Thunderbird completely crashed. I had to relaunch the application, and log in each time.
What I expected to happen was for the curser to move from the subject field to the main message body field.
I use the tab key extremely frequently to move between fields, so this isn't an unusual operation, and yet after many months of use the trouble just started and keeps recurring.
I'm running version 2.0.0.23 (20090817) on Ubuntu. I recognize I should be running a newer version, but can't find directions on how to install it, and don't want to break anything.
I'm using Ubuntu version 9.10.

You do not appear to have it installed via Ubuntu's repositories, do you?
Can you provide the output of "dpkg -l | grep thunderbird" from a terminal, please?
