I can confirm this bug, it occured when I was trying to set up the skype plugin for empathy/pidgin in the lucid beta. basically it crashed right after I confirmed the access for the plugin and it tried to connect.

1. Is this reproducible?
2. If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? Be as detailed as possible.
This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Also please don't comment that the bug effects you, as that what the section at the top of the bug is for.

I can confirm this happens to me, too. I:

 * installed telepathy-haze and pigdin-skype
 * added a bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus account to telepathy. I just filled up the account name and didn't touch the defaults
 * the skype client prompted me to allow access to a new application and I allowed it.

Immediately after I allowed it telepathy-haze crashed. It continued crashing until I disabled the account. It doesn't matter whether the skype client is already running or not (pigdin-skype autostarts it, as it's configured to do so by default) nor whether I allow it to access the skype client once or forever.

Seems 100% reproducible.
The steps have already been mentioned: set up the skype-plugin for empathy/pidgin and there it goes...

Btw., in case it matters:
  ii skype 2.1.0.81-1 Skype

Brian, was it *not* reproducible for you, or was this an automated comment?

It crashed the first time but I can't reproduce it. I tried removing the account and adding again to no avail: it no longer crashes. But still it doesn't work, either: it just says "Disconnected - Network error" even if the skype client is online; but this just looks like an unrelated issue; I filed bug #556479 for it.

Also, pidgin crashes, too (I reported it as bug #556430 but it's private as I'm afraid the dump contains my skype passwords) and the crash is reproducible. But please note that installing pidgin-skype you get two protocols on pidgin: "Skype" and "Skype (D-Bus)" (given the names I suspect "bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus" is the latter, I filed bug #556471 for this issue), and while the latter crashes the former works.

Now, that's interesting, because I don't get two, but only bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus. None of the other choices
(facebook chat, ... jabber, irc,... appear to have anything to do with skype except for bigbrownchunx)

I use empathy as it appears on the gnome-toolbar in fresh-installed 10.4b1 plus all the upgrades...

I have bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus only, too.

What I was trying to say is that if you use pidgin-skype with pidgin you get two protocols "Skype" and "Skype (D-Bus)" and the latter doesn't work in pidgin either. The former does but, given the names, I think telepathy-haze only uses the latter.

I'm not sure if this helps, but it seems that my AIM was also affected. It would not connect until I removed the Skype account.

i'm not sure if this is the same problem, but i tried to get empathy working with pidgin-skype and had no luck. i wasn't enable to create a account with bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus in empathy, but it worked with installing skype4pidgin. only problem, the plugin depends on pidgin. i made a new deb-package witch needs pidgin or empathy. now i can use skype with empathy without installing pidgin. see here for more: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/567248
