Bug Description

Binary package hint: apt

Using Synaptic I downgraded mythtv-frontend and mythtv-common from Lucid's version 0.23 to 0.22 (for compatibility with an older backend server). Then I locked the 0.22 versions in Synaptic. As expeceted. neither Synapitc nor the update-manager then offer these versions for upgrade. Synaptic shows the two packages as pinned; update-manager does not show them at all.

However, apt-get from the command line does not recognize the locking status and always does an upgrade when called as apt-get upgrade or apt-get dist-upgrade.

Synaptic and apt-get do not share the same settings, hence the pinning/locking in synaptic is not known by apt-get.

Changed in apt (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid

Well, doesn't this look like an obvious shortcoming, which needs to be addressed?

The developer told me that in the past synaptic did share the same locking as apt, and it confused more people. So I would not count on this changing again.
