Bug Description

With thunar, when you delete a file, it will select the previous one (on the left), but when you press enter, it will quickly open the next one (on the right)...

To reproduce:
- create an empty folder (e.g. test)
- create 3 files inside: bar.txt, baz.txt and foo.txt
- select and delete (shift+suppr) the middle one (baz.txt)
=> the first one (bar.txt) seems to be selected
- press enter
=> the third on (foo.txt) opens instead of the first one.

Thank you for reporting this issue. Could you answer the following please:

* Is this reproducable?
* Do you have keyboard key repeat enabled or disabled? This would be expected behavior if repeat is enabled. (Applications -> Settings -> Keyboard)

Then on 9.10 and now 10.04 i had Xubuntu default installations and
havent changed anything in keybord mouse or appearance/themes. so yes
keyboard repeat is on by defaul on repeat delay 500 and repeat speed
20.
Yes this is reproducable. And even for u. (cant believe no one has
tryd it-just try)
When reported this file-then doing this opened one file but now it
opens as much as keybord press is made as fast to work.
now reproducing it almost made computer crash/freeze.
heres a bug 585366 report witch apport collected while reproduced this bug.

Thanks for your response. If the enter is supposed to repeat and does, why would you not expect this to happen? By holding the 'enter' key, you are telling it to repeat until you release it. It is behaving that way. Every key repeats if held down. The enter key is not an exception to this. This will happen in any application, including the terminal.

Charlie, this bug reporter keeps on writing cabbalistic things beyond understanding, but I think I'm able to reproduce this issue. Could you retry with what I wrote in the first comment? Thanks!

I can not reproduce this on my system. It always hilights the file before the deleted on, and enter opens that file that is hilighted. Of course, it could have to do with the individual settings. I keep both the mouse double-click rate, keyboard repeat rate, and delays set very high, since my fingers double bounce the keys very often.

Button "Enter" would need to work as its set to work and it does.
But after deleting thunar shouldnt be selected any file couse if it does as it does now a very bad result can be reproducable by holding enter longer on delete question window makes multiple times file next to deleted file open couse after deleting selecting next file happens and holding enter opens that next file. Thats the most colorite example what this bug can couse. Also this bug has caused me system unusable when deleting one gif and another gif opens with a lot ristrettos witch after some seconds crashes.
Also this can be reproduced slowly.
Open in thunar folder with 2 files.
Select one and delete it (any way)
then press "Enter" file opens.. couse after deleting that file was auto selected by thunar..
Heres something that prooves that unselecting in thunar makes previous position remember. Maybe it will help find easier solution.
Open folder with many files. Click one move with arrow key. Unselect by with mouse clicking in thunar empty place. That unselected file. Move with arrow key. File that way arrow points is selected from previous selected file witch was deselected..

This does appear to working as designed. Enter if held will automatically select and open the files/folders. Moving through a file list with the arrow keys automatically selects the files in the list one at a time. The time delays can be changed through the keyboard and mouse settings. If the user bounces keys or holds them down, erratic behavior for that user is expected. There are also accessibility settings which can be used to change the behavior of these key presses.
