Basically your laptop is a very new system that is based on Intel's "Arrandale" architecture. There is not support for it out of the box on Karmic. There will be support in Lucid. I will try to get more information on if/when your system will be supported on Karmic.

Thanks

Ethernet is a new Yukon card (model Optima), supported by 2.6.33 onward (could be easy backported), driver sky2.
Xorg work with latest intel driver and 2.6.33, but goes blank screen with 2.6.32 and older (you may use vesa or fb driver in the meanwhile), I haven't yet identified the fixing commit to backport.
Sound is still being worked on, I did get some headphone output with latest alsa-driver git and model="generic". It will probably take some time to set out; it's being tracked at https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=4934.

I'm also tracking the overall status of this laptop at http://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Sony/VPCEB1J1E

For bug-triager: this has nothing to do with firmware issue, please reassign to appropriate kernel package for Lucid.

As I wrote earlier, these systems are VERY new. We on the kernel team are actively working on them. For example, there are a few processor errata we are making work arounds for in the kernel. This process takes time, unfortunately, so although it does appear we will support it in Karmic, it may be a while before it's supported very well (processor, wifi, graphics, audio, etc.).

sorry to insist but I am disappointed with my new notebook sony vaio vpceb1j1e/wi because they supported the specific devices. With ubuntu lucid alpha 3 graphics card works without any problems. With kernel 2.6.33 works without problems and the card is denied. The only problem that still exists is the sound card ....

Sorry for my English but I am from Greece.

Hi again... I installed lucid x86 beta 1 and have rectified anything so far. For the ethernet needs backport the driver from kernel 2.6.33. For the sound card has found a temporary solution to the following website: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9008912 # post9008912. I hope this help you to fix the sound. I've also found that the wireless is not working properly and needs driver for the card reader which is not working ... sorry to insist but time passes and has not corrected anything yet so do not operate my computer ...
