Bug Description
Binary package hint: xubuntu-artwork
Reduced log from #xubuntu:
15:23 PimR: won't go past log-in screen, as if x11 is broken
15:47 mr_pouit: PimR: what's the symptoms? Does it display the blue loading screen with sparkles?
15:47 PimR: yes
15:47 PimR: and then flickers
15:48 PimR: and I get the log in screen again
15:49 mr_pouit: PimR: try to disable/uninstall xsplash, and see if it improves (sudo mv /usr/bin/xsplash /usr/bin/
15:50 PimR: will do
15:53 PimR: but I read on the net that it also occured just by changing desktop resolutions
15:53 PimR: so gonna check that first
15:53 PimR: (gota fresh install)
15:54 PimR: yep
15:54 PimR: I just broke it with adjusting the resolution
15:55 mr_pouit: yeah, so try to disable xsplash
15:59 PimR: nice that works mr_pouit
15:59 PimR: what makes it break?
16:00 mr_pouit: xsplash uses the maximum resolution available. In the meantime, xfce4-settings-
16:00 mr_pouit: something goes wrong between them I guess
16:00 mr_pouit: and X crashes => returns to the login screen
I've noticed this issue several times on French forums too. Still no response from the dx team to the bugs filed. Even worse, xsplash hasn't been updated since karmic. Also, it is disabled in lucid since december as it uses too many cpu and slows down the boot.
Thus I think we should drop our xsplash theme from the default install (it'll also drop xsplash).
