Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

This dual-boot problem seems to be getting worse, not better, between Alpha 2 and Alpha 3.

With Alpha 2, Windows XP worked whereas Windows 2000 would fail to boot.

Now with Alpha 3, Windows XP also fails to boot when Linux is added to the back ot the drive, and grub2 is installed to the HDD MBR.

I am working in a VirtualBox environment on top of Ubuntu 9.04. Attached is a screen scrape of the crash screen. Next I will attach the VirtualBox log file mentioned in the error screen.

I did a recreate using the daily ISO from 20100312. Now WinXP boots to the desktop, then crashes VirtualBox so hard that a VirtualBox crash screen comes up, pressing the OK button closes VirtualBox. So, progress, not prefect.

First attaching a zip file containing more than what was asked for in the AttachingLogs document.

I re-tested this condition today using the 20100426.1 ISO image of Lucid.

I am please to report that in two test configurations tested, the problem is completely / successfully resolved.

One test was on real hardware. The second test was in a VirtualBox VM environment.

I will get onto retesting Windows 2000 OS next, which is bug# 508988.
