Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird-enigmail

While the mozilla-thunderbird-enigmail package installs and the OpenPGP menu item appears in Thunderbird, any attempt to use Enigmail in any way results in a dialogue box reporting "failed to access Enigmail service". The "About OpenPGP" menu item reports:

OpenPGP provided by Enigmail

Running Enigmail version 0.93.0.0 (20051006)

Warning: Enigmime module not available

ERROR: Failed to access Enigmime service!
Enigmime Service not available

I am running breezy 5.10 on kernel 2.6.12-10-686-smp

Problem solved by removing the package with dpkg -P, uninstalling
Enigmail 0.93 from the Tools/Extensions menu, then reinstalling the
package. Enigmail now works correctly. Note that uninstalling and
reinstalling the package without the middle step of uninstalling from
the Tools/Extensions menu in Thunderbird did not resolve the problem.

Regards,
Andrew

Thanks for the report. I'm afraid it's probably not possible now to determine what the cause of the problem was; it seems to have affected only your system. If it recurs, please file a new report.

The proposed fix won't work.

No matter how much I reinstall enigmail, or if I install the enigmail from mozdev.org, it won't work.

Gusty Development, Mozilla Thunderbird Version 2.0.0.6 (20070830).
Please supply an working Enigmail or Thunderbird-Package package.

I can confirm the problem on 64bit kubuntu 8.04.
I already tried to deinstall and reinstall, without any luck.

This is very annoying the 32bit version worked fine, a fix would be greatly appreciated.

Can you check, if you have libenigmime.so installed in your browser "components" directory?

If not, can you unpack the XPI file and copy the libenigmime.so file from the XPI to the "components"? (Global, not your profile)

I've solved a similar problem on the FreeBSD:

in the components directory I saw nothing regarding libenigmime.

As a workaround a deinstalled the enigmail package, unregistered the component from thunderbird, downloaded the XPI from http://enigmail.mozdev.org/download/index.php and installed it "by hand"
