This effect crashes for me also. Does this work for anyone? Is it supported in all versions of Frei0r?

It crashs for me when i want to play with the preview. I'll be back now on
my karmic, it was unicap who was crashing the system and was shutdowning it
(in fact it was the documentation of unicap).

The update of the POT file is good for me. [?]

Cheers Olivier

I wonder if this effect has recently added some new parameters, or
removed some parameters. Maybe depending on which version of Frie0r
we are using, determines whether it will crash MLT or not.

I checked if it played with melt like this:

melt -filter frei0r.nervous test006.dv

It doesn´t crash but there is no effect visible.

I forgot to mention I am on 32-bit Ubuntu 9.10, frei0r version 1.1.22git20090409+repack-0ubuntu1.
If I look in /usr/lib/frei0r-1 I see no nervous plug-in?

This nervous effect is making me nervous. If it has no visible
effect, should we just remove it to prevent crashes on some systems?

Yes I think we should. We should also think about removing the Water effect too, which also causes crashing on some systems (see Bug #505136).

I suppose this could have to do with problem with nervous effect:
http://git.dyne.org/index.cgi?url=frei0r/commit/&id=8149fae6884035aa588eb14eb228863ebbd6bdbf

the fix didn't get in ubuntu frei0r package, this could explain why the filter is functional with git dev version of frei0r.
The frei0r package in ubuntu hasn''t been updated since september 4th 2009, and the same package is getting into lucid.

there's the possibility that Nervous effect is not even present in Ubuntu packages, as the last sync to git repository made by debian package maintainers date to april 2009, and Nervous effect has been introduced in August.
Sorry, it's my fault, as I was using all the dependencies compiled from development sources I didn't check which effect was in official packages.

Thanks for checking! After installing the latest version of Frei0r it works. But I also think it is best just to remove it for now.

Of course the "fix" doesn't fix the real bug.

The real bug is that MLT segfaults if you ask it to apply a frei0r filter which doesn't exist, this should probably be reported to the MLT guys.

There is also an opehshot bug; Only configured effects/filtered should be offered and a warning should be given if a project which refers to an invalid filter is loaded.
