Bug Description
Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
Ubuntu lucid
gnome-terminal 2.29.6-0ubuntu1
Architecture: armel (imx51); probably applies to other arches too?
The effect may be an inappropriately used visual bell, or more probably something else.
An infuriating side-effect is that the whole window flashes black every time I change directory.
Fiddling with escape sequences, the flash happens if either of the following sequence specified a different <title> from the current one:
ESC ] 0 ; <title> BEL
ESC ] 2 ; <title> BEL
Note that the XTerm icon name change sequence (ESC ] 1 ; <title> BEL) doesn't cause the flash even if title is different.

Steve and I also are reproducing this behavior. I did not notice it prior to updating a week or two ago, so it is a recent regression in Lucid.
I'm not able to produce the same effect in xterm.
