Bug Description

Mixxx 1.8.0-beta1, Mac OS X 10.5

The new iTunes view does not seem to have a BPM column, could that be added?

iTunes doesn't include any BPM information, so we can't provide a column for
it without BPM-detecting every track in the iTunes library. The only columns
we show for iTunes are those that are stored in iTunes.

Thanks,
RJ

@ RJ Ryan,

ITunes is capable to store and display BPM information. However, the songs must have been analyzed before by programs such as Rapid Evolution or Mixmeister BPM Analyzer which write the corresponding ID3 Tag.

I'll try to add this column as soon as possible.

Tobias

Correct, I had already added the BPM ID3 tags externally. They do show up fine when put directly into Mixxx's main library, so I'll just use that for now.

Thanks!

Hey Tobias,

Thanks -- I didn't know that the iTunes XML is capable of storing BPM information gleaned from tags. I don't have an example of an iTunes XML that has those in it. If you do and are close to finishing a patch, feel free to post it here.

Thanks,
RJ

Attached you will find a patch which adds the missing BPM column. Please note that iTunes only allows integer values on BPMs. One and the same song in the root library and in iTunes feature distinguish in their displayed BPM.

Please also note that my patch solves some URL problems on Windows for file locations as stated in Bug #517521. I submitted a separate diff for the problem earlier, however, it has not been checked-in by the developers. Thus, it would be great if someone could confirm that my URL patches don't break anything on other operating systems, i.e, is feature iTunes still working on Mac?

Mac OS 10.5.8 / Mixxx r2238 / iTunes 9.0.3

BPM Column is shown, iTunes feature working as expected.

2 things i noticed (not sure if related to your patch):
Drag&Drap to the player does not work, while right click-> "Load in Player" works.
When switching between playlists inside the iTunes view the waveform, waveform overview & volume level freeze.

This should not be related to my patch. Drag'n drop does not work either on Windows. It is still an open posting in TODO-FOR-NEXT-RELEASE, see Wiki

Thanks, all. Dumb question though: Are you saying the iTunes XML database stores BPM info in addition to the ID3 BPM tags my songs already have? If so, why consult one over the other?

Hey Smashuu,

In the iTunes view, we only use the BPM that iTunes provides. If you add the song to the Mixxx library it will use the BPM written in your ID3 tags.

Thanks,
RJ
