you might also want to try to reproduce the same on a newer release like Karmic.

totem played good for 6 months or better
all i do is click on a video a blank page opens and a popup gome open they
open an just dont play but 1 fps
if i open the down load folder an click its the same
i can get them to open an play with vlc right till the end it hangs for 30
seconds before it will close
1 more thing if i have a flash chat open totem will not play any videos at
all
but i close the chat to watch videos

i can say my webcam fps jump up an down
it comes on most times at 20 fps an starts going down to 5 fps have seen it
go to 1 fps
i think it is in the problems with the usb

sorry i cant give any more help

john, any news about this issue?

odd you ask this now
it started working good after some time
but i have upgraded to
ubuntu 10.04 lucid on that computer
gnome 2.30.2
kernel 2.6.32-28-generic

bad news its doing the same thing

smplayer works well
vlc works good too

totem is the same

1 more odd thing is i can not change any of the settings like brightness, hue, saturation, contrast, gamma
in all 3 players

on this computer
every thing works just fine
ubuntu 10.04 lucid
gnome 2.30.2
kernel 2.6.32-28-generic
