Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Once in a blue moon (twice in the past 3 months) I've noticed that when my laptop wakes from the suspended state the screen is not locked. I am not certain if this is associated with pm-utils or gnome-power-manager, but comments in bug #324321 suggested gpm.

Attached are gpm files (automatically appended via ubuntu-bug), and also the applicable section of pm-suspend.log showing that the laptop was suspended for several hours before resuming. Let me know what else might be helpful.

This should be fixed in lucid now; gnome-screensaver has an unfortunate habit of crashing in karmic, though this should be improved already over jaunty's failures.

Please could somebody check if this behaviour is still occurring in latest release included in Ubuntu Maverick? Thanks

It just happened for me last night for the first time in a long time. What log files would be useful?

@itismike: was this on karmic, or on maverick?

How do you suspend? By closing the lid, or with Indicator Applet Session?

It was on Maverick, and I closed the lid and opened it hours later

ugh. Sorry for the email reply. I thought it would parse it automatically.

"It was on Maverick, and I closed the lid and opened it hours later."

Are there any log files that I can provide for diagnosing this very rare situation? Or is it pretty well understood that gnome-screensaver just crashed? If so, maybe a flag can be set at the beginning of a suspend with a condition to lock the screen unless gnome-screensaver can prove that it didn't crash?

Hi. When you open your lid again, is gnome-screensaver still running?

The problem with the type of fix you are suggesting is that a lot of people simply close their laptop lid and put it in their laptop bag. If suspend aborted because of a gnome-screensaver failure, they could run the risk of overheating their laptop and possibly damaging it.

I think Jamie is taking liberties marking this a dupe of #369359, which was just closed because the user didn't have "Lock screen when screensaver is active" checked.
This bug is for suspend, not hibernation. And my settings were set to lock screen when screensaver is active. Please remove dupe status.
