This may be fixed by updating to a newer version of libgphoto2. The version in an up to date Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron is libgphoto2 2.4.0-8ubuntu8. According to http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/news/ support for the Canon EOS 450D was added in libgphoto2 2.4.2. libgphoto2 2.4.2-0ubuntu2 is included in Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex, with an update to 2.4.2-0ubuntu3 available. There is a Jaunty 2.4.2-0ubuntu5 package in the PPA available at https://launchpad.net/~mrooney/+archive/ppa but I'm not sure if it will apply to Hardy.

Hi teocervo,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 515191

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

It only doesn't mount, if no memory card is inserted. If one is inserted, the card mounts via the usb-cable between camera and computer.

When Canon 450d is connected via USB, camera begins blinking with red light nervously. Ubuntu doesn't seem to recognize camera. I can choose EOS 450d in FSpot menu, but after FSpot shows syncronization error. Is it the same problem?
