Hi,
Could you please try to add use_glshaders = false in the [main] section of the config.ini file?

Fabien,

I added use_glshaders = false in the [main] section of my config.ini, and the stars are now displaying.

Please let me know if you want to try to capture any other information that may help if you are trying to debug this further.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Bug confirmed here on a Intel Pentium III Xenon, 2.60 GHz, 2048 MB, XP SP3, Radeon HD 2400 Card.

Stellarium worked fine half a day, and than suddenly stars disappeared when Stellarium was restarted. Uninstall and Reinstall did not cure the problem. Tried "Use_glshaders = false", and now the stars are back.

There is another issue, sidebar menus are flickering on this machine.

The latest install appears to fix this problem!

But, if you click on the Start Button / Scroll to Stellarium; Click to open the group, there should be a shortcut to config.ini (does not exist until the first run of the program). Click on the config.ini item and it will open in Notepad.

Scroll down through the file in notepad until you see the heading [main]. Anywhere under that heading enter (on its own line):

use_glshaders = false

This is the info from the website I did notice that the new install set this to true (not false). Not sure what this effects.

Hope this helps!

Ok, had it partly right...failed to add the use_glshaders = false under the {main}...had it at the top of the files. Here's an interesting side note to your comment about the new install...the version I downloaded 10.3 did have under {main} glshaders=true. When I added glshaders=false the under {main} it did not repair the problem. I then deleted glshaders=true and bingo...stars, etc. now are visible.

Many thanks for your help!!!

Yea, sometimes I wonder how these things work at all!!!

I went back in and now have tried the setting as true, false and deleted it totally and no matter what the stars appear! I think the problem lied elsewhere and has been fixed (wonder if the version should be 0.10.3.1.2.3.4.5.8???). I think the initial config.ini turned out to be a band-aid that worked...

I am not complaining, this is a great program and I love it!

Try setting the environment variable LANG to C and then re-running to
see if that fixes the problem.

I had this problem with 0.10.3 as well. Installed 0.10.4, no change. Uninstalled 0.10.4 and reinstalled it, no change. Looked in config.ini and saw that use_glshaders was set to true, but also that version had the value 0.10.3. Didn't change anything and uninstalled it yet again. Turns out the Stellarium folder in Appdata isn't deleted when Stellarium gets uninstalled and it doesn't seem to be overwritten when Stellarium is installed, probably by design to keep old settings. After I removed the folder and reinstalled 0.10.4 it now works, although the version string in config.ini is still 0.10.3. It now works regardless if use_glshaders is true or false, although it's not included in config.ini by default anymore.

Same here, saw no stars, which is rather awkward for a program like this ;). I thought I didn't set something right in display settings, but that wasn't the case, so it took me a while to understand it was bug.

If it helps any: Windows 7 64bit, 0.12.2 64bit, AMD Radeon HD 7420G, driver v9.2.0.0.

Adding use_glshaders under [main] in config.ini fixed the issue so I'm all OK now, but this seems like a major issue for many (other) users, which may just give up and uninstall. Good luck with fixing this.
