DVD drive mounted to /media/usbdisk

Bug Description

Binary package hint: udev

Put DVD into drive (Samsung DVD ROM SD-608) and it seems to end up at mounted at /media/usbdisk which means DVDs won't play properly.

mtab says
/dev/hdc /media/usbdisk udf ro,nosuid,nodev,uid=1000,gid=1000,umask=007,iocharset=utf8 0 0

You get no icon on the desktop or in 'computer'

eject /dev/hdc works fine

An audio CD in the same drive works fine (doesn't show up in mtab)

In the HAL device Manager storage.policy.desired_mount_point is cdrom

Pushing eject button on DVD drive doesn't work (would be OK if there was an icon on the desktop but is problematic as it is)

Using System-->Administration-->Disks-->CDROM-->DVD Video tab says that there is a DVD laoded and gives an option to play the DVD. This opens Totem and works

There is another CD (writer) drive connected at /dev/hdb

Strange, pmount-hal is supposed to pick up the desired mount point from hal. Can you please do

  PMOUNT_DEBUG=1 pmount-hal /dev/hdc

and put the output here?

I have the same problem with Ubuntu Dapper and Edgy, but not with Kubuntu Dapper and Edgy. It is impossible to read data DVD or DVD movie. I have a Lite-on brand DVD drive.

Since updates of python this morning, I don't have this problem anymore (yeepie). But I still don't have any icon of dvd on the desktop. But with cd i have it. Here is the output of the debugging step: (as I am french I tried to translate the french parts in English)
without dvd in the dvd drive
/dev/hdc is in /etc/fstab, calling mount
spawnv(): executing mount 'mount' '/dev/hdc'
mount: No media found
spawn(): mount terminated with status 32

with dvd
/dev/hdc is in /etc/fstab, calling mount
spawnv(): executing mount 'mount' '/dev/hdc'
mount: /dev/hdc is protected against write, mounted read only
mount: /dev/hdc is yet mounted ou /media/cdrom0 is busy
mount: regard to mtab /dev/hdc is yet mounted in /media/cdrom0
spawn(): mount terminated with status 32

Mabouya: Your problem is entirely different from Who's (and I'm not even sure whether there is an actual bug at all, it seems you try to mount a CD on top of an already existing mount on /media/cdrom0). Please file a new bug and attach your /etc/fstab if you think something behaves incorrectly. Thanks!

Who, I still need this debug output from you.

I have reinstalled Ubuntu and made all the updates and the problems reappeared. The debug is now :

julien@Magic:~$ PMOUNT_DEBUG=1 pmount-hal /dev/hdc

volume: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part_1_size_3749740544
device: /dev/hdc
label: usbdisk
fstype: (null)
options: exec
umask: (null)
spawnv(): executing pmount 'pmount' '--exec' '/dev/hdc' 'usbdisk-1'
Erreur : /dev/hdc is yet mounted on /media/usbdisk
spawn(): pmount terminated with status 4
Erreur: impossible to execute pmount

Here is my /etc/fstab too:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb1 / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
/dev/hdb5 /media/commun vfat defaults,utf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 1
/dev/hda1 /media/hda1 vfat defaults,utf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 1
/dev/hda2 /media/windows ntfs defaults,nls=utf8,umask=007,gid=46 0 1
/dev/hdb2 none swap sw 0 0
/dev/hdd /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0

Ihave a dvd drive and a cdrw drive, but only one seems to be mounted.
